NEW YEARS RESOLUTION

This year I have a partner in my 2007 New Year's resolution..... Mesa!!! This change in behavior is necessary for the well being of my little family of three..... Me, Mesa, and Tate. I love driving around in the car with Mesa always at my side. She will perch on the console between the two front seats and snuggle with me while I drive. Oh how I love it when her left front leg settles on my right shoulder while placing her left cheek against my face. This way I can reach up and scratch and nuzzle her sweet little fur face and soft ears. Not a soul in the back seat can escape the wide wag of her feathered tail. Here is where Tate comes in. Tate will be sitting in her car seat in the way of that wagging tail. Fur will be flying off of that snuggle puppy.... EVERYWHERE!!! Hence, serious changes have got to be made. As suggested by an experienced Mom to a dog who added three kiddos to the mix.... "Break this habit now so that the invasion of Tate is not associated with Mesa's banning in the car". As I have said before, Mesa is in training to be a dog. And those dog barrier SUV/car things were invented for desperate times like these.....

This will be so tough for Mesa, but even tougher for ME!!!! Oh how I love my time in the car with my snuggle pup!!!

Oh... Poor Mesa! But you are doing the right thing. Put some toys and treats in the back for her so that she associates being back there with good things. I would also avoid talking too much to her when she's back there. She might not understand that you are trying to console her and it just might make her more excitable.

Have you watched or read The Dog Whisperer? I highly reccommend the book and the show!

I LOVE my furbaby, Iris & couldn't care less if I have a bit o' fur on my by the time i get to the office. this is why I've got lint rollers all over the place. Good luck with the behavior change - I don't have a dog but imagine that it will be a challenge. XO

Ohhh...I don't envy you that. Mesa is such a sweetie but you're gonna have your hands full. I'll be sending good thoughts for you and Mesa!

Oh poor snugglepup and poor you!

Maybe instead of a barrier in the back you could invent a short barrier between the front seats so Mesa could sit up on the passenger seat but her tail/body/furrylove wouldn't find it's way into the back seat?

Why not do a harness seat belt in the front seat like I do with my little Pirate.

It would work cause Tate will be in the back for a while, just won't work if you want another passenger upfront with you!!! :)

Maybe chewy toys in the back as consolation?

Yea...thats a tough one. You don't want Mesa to feel like #2...oh god I cannot even imagine what/how to handle when we finally get Hannah home. Lots of changes. Good luck. Give that big fur baby a giant kiss from me!
