FOREVER LILY.....UPDATE

UPDATE.......
I am finally getting around to reading this book, Forever Lily. I'm wondering for those who have read this, what is your thoughts on this book? Did you like it? How did you like the dream sequences to the book?

******UPDATE******
So I finished reading the book late last night. The dream scenes I just kind of skimmed over. But I am guessing the author felt it must be told, since this is based on a true story. As Catherine stated, it is one persons experience of her adoption journey. I really did not like the book and kind of forced myself to finish it. I have read China Ghosts and Meeting Sophie and those I loved and could not put down.

Thanks for responding to my question.... I kept hearing how great this book was and I'm like thinking "what is wrong with me that I am not liking it".

Amy... I am sending you the book to read....

I read it probably about a year ago. Although I didn't enjoy the dream sequences at all (I actually skipped over them), I really enjoyed the story.

I LOVED IT!!! every part... I'm really into dream analysis... I have very detailed dreams, so I enjoy reading about it.

I didn't care for it. I skipped the dream sequences (they got really weird) and really didn't enjoy the book.

I say put it down and get China Ghosts NOW- by far the very very BEST adoption memoir I've EVER read, my sister and brother in law also could not put it down and are so happy they read it as it gave them a picture of what this will be like... or could be like! Forever Lily was "ok" but I didn't love it. The dream stuff was way over the top and not at all believable to me.

I really liked the story. Although the dream sequences were 'unusual' I enjoyed them.

I didn't enjoy it at all (and even wrote a whole post on it last year) Y you can see it here: http://forksandchopsticks.wordpress.com/2007/03/14/forever-lily/

It was not an 'easy read' or always enjoyable but I'm glad I read it as it was one person's experience. Must admit to not really enjoying or understanding the dream sequences.

I'm glad I persevered through it though.

I actually ended up liking it, although the "friend" just seemed kooky and way over-involved to me in the beginning. (I hadn't read the back of the book or any summaries so I didn't know what was going on.) One thing that really bothered me though was that the little girl is someday going to read that book and know every single comment and thought that everyone had about her. It will be really hard for her, if you ask me. (I'm trying to be vague in this comment so I don't spoil the book for you)

Haven't read that book or China Ghosts, the one Kris mentions... I have, however, read & really enjoyed Meeting Sophie, A Memoir of Adoption by: Nancy McCabe. Now that was a book I could NOT put down and perhaps it's because it was another single mother that I really connected with this story, but regardless, single or not, the story was well written and honest.

-Amy & Ruby Cate (who I have to wake up now as we must get going to work shortly...)

I just found the whole book almost depressing...and not particularly well written. But I'm thrilled her daughter has a great home.

I didn't read this, but I read and loved China Ghosts. I haven't heard of Meeting Sophie, but I'm going to check that one out on Amazon.

I read it, but didn't really like it. I LOVED China Ghosts. I highly recommend that one. I put a bookshelf on my blog that has a bunch of great books and many of them are China-related. Check it out for some great books....

I would love to read. But I haven't had time for a year now. Hmmm...wonder why?

Next time we do something, I will let you know. We would love to have you! You are so fun and I know I wanted to see people's babies while waiting, it helped.

Just finished it last night. It was a quick read. I liked it. I really liked the dream sequences and if those were her dreams, they were amazing dreams to have during the timeframe that she had them in. I felt that the original A mom was really kooky, almost treating it like adopting a puppy....not caring for the "human" involved. I applaud the author for finding her love for the child so quickly...amazingly quickly and am so happy for Lily that they did.

KEWL! I can't wait to check it out! If you want, we can do a book swap, I'll send you one that I've read & loved... oooh I LOVE BOOKS! I'm excited already!

The hell with Amazon, we've got friends willing to BOOK SWAP!

hehehe

-Amy (& one silly Ruby Cate who is currently on the floor playing with a puzzle & heard her Momma pass the slightest amount of gas, & without missing a beat says, out loud: "THAT'S A POOP!" Nice huh? I tried to explain to her that it's because I'm sick & also those sugar free cookies don't help either. Like bullet trains through the colon I tell ya!)

Now, on that note, I'm sure everyone just loves me even more. LOL
SORRY GUYS!

hehehehehe

I think I found your blog via Mary Mia's Salsa Blog. I am enjoying reading! I also read this book and basically skipped the dream sequences as well. They just didn't "do it" for me. The rest of the book was pretty good I thought. Not my favorite adoption book, but it was OK.

I LOVED this book - all of it. I believe that dreams are important and that sometimes it's how spiritual promptings can be manifested. I truly felt a kinship with the author.

I've read the other books you've listed and liked them a lot as well.
