NORWEGIAN PANCAKES...

In the kitchen cabinet, right next to the stove, is a recipe solidly taped on the door. In my parents home, for the past five years, this recipe has taken on a whole new meaning. Here sits the instructions for making Norwegian pancakes (crepes) and something my dad has takening to making. At the beginning, these FIRST pancakes were a bit too thick and charred. Every single partaker of this earlier effort acted like they were the most delicious pancakes EVER. With each confidence building attempt, my Dad has perfected these pancakes into amazingly delicious delights. This pancake making has become a tradition for "Gramps" to cook the morning after a sleep over with the Grandkiddos. This is a tradition that I am hoping that Tate will have the memories of.... You see, even thought he is so very healthy, he is almost 77 years old. I wonder how long it takes for a child to form those memories as vivid memories and just not hearsay. I will document in pictures Tate's Gramps making these pancakes. I will talk about this tradition to reinforce her memories..... I just feel like time is just a wasting when I think of the fragile time of the elderly and the quick growth a child.

As I write this, I am enjoying the left over Norwegian pancakes from one of his sessions. Cooked to a perfectly golden brown and so very delicate and thin.... It is funny what triggers my thoughts for the future and things that I want to blog about.

Hmmmmmm, food for thought.

Lisa, you should do a scrapbook page of your Dad making the pancakes and journal about the history behind it. Then also scrap about it when Tate is little and you show her how. When she is older she will appreciate having these and the tradition behind it.

I've started digital scrapbooking and it's quick and easy...I posted my first page in an album on the Ladybug Hunters group...check it out next time your on the group. There are lots of free downloads of papers and digital kits.

By the way, are the pancakes a family recipe or do you share it? They were good when you're mom made them for us...YUM!

Dear Lisa
Two things--when my mom and I were in UT visiting my daughter and granddaughter--Sarah--(from Jiangxi)--she wanted to cook Sarah Ebbelskever (Danish and--not sure of the spelling--Pancake. .dumpling. . doughie. . thingies and she's NINETY so your dad may have many years to make an impression on your precious peanut with his cooking prowess.

But the second thing that has my eyes tearing even as I type--I was lurking your blog about the time that Ben disappeared and feeling so bad about your family's loss when my mom got a call about the disappearance of our 2nd/3rd? cousin's son about 18 months ago in Japan (apparently the original calls came during the time both parents were in hosp/Nursing Homes due to illness and I missed the calls completely and since family is distant from us they assumed the worst til my mom decided to call and let her family member know that she was, indeed, better). It is just inconceivable to me that in civilized times and civilized countries people can just drop off the face of the earth. I have added prayers for Ben to my list. Sorry this was such a downer.
