Meet Ivy....
It is not exactly what I wanted, as an Asian girl being the CENTER of a series, but still a step in the right direction. Ivy is the best friend of Julie Albright, a historical character from 1974.... Hmmmmmmm, I graduated high school in 1975, when did the mid 70's become "historical"?. Funny to me and dating to me, but still FUNNY.
So I clicked onto the American Girl site and see that Ivy is back ordered for a while. I think this is great news. I can only imagine all the Asian girls who will be holding this doll and reading the adventures of Julie and Ivy. I am still hoping for a series centering around a strong, vibrant Asian girl with maybe a best friend who is Julie.

Cool!
What is up with that outfit she's wearing though? I know I'm totally unhip and unstylish, but is that what passes for cute these days or is it truly ugly?
They had a half Asian girl once, and I was THIS close to purchasing one for my daughter!

I just happened across the AG book shown in the picture at Walmart today and picked it up. It's written by Lisa Yee and looks like a good read.
M3 forgets it was totally a hot outfit for the 70's! lol...
I would still like to see more of an ethnic look to her instead of the white-girl doll face with a blunt bob-cut hairstyle slapped on the head... but it's at least a start.
And Lisa, you want to be dated? I was 4 when you graduated...lol. But still, I wouldn't call that time "historical"...lol!!!!
I hear ya.
Historical...we are relics. I was 8 in 75. Who knew how close we were to antiques?
Love the table and chairs! We have the britax, but in blue! (poor second child!) you know, you can have car seat covers costom made on ebay. I finally got Gracie a Dora cover. We have the high chair, it's great. The stroller is really good, too...
I think Ivy is adorable. Of course, Emma wants the Molly American Girl doll for Christmas. So I might have to get Ivy for myself!
