TRYING ON THE NAME....

It kind of seems a little strange to refer to myself as MOMMA. I am hoping when I hold Tate in my arms, it will just seem natural and right to be called Momma. All my life I have been called LISA. When I became an Aunt at age 16yrs, I never took on the name of “Aunt Lisa”. It just seemed strange. My nieces and nephews all call me Lisa. When I talk to Mesa, I refer to myself as Lisa. You know, “Give Lisa the ball, Mesa” “Lisa loves you so much!!!” Some pet owners will call themselves Momma and Daddy. This is cute, but just did not happen for me when I first got my Mesa. I know a gal whose kiddos call her and her husband by their first names. To each their own, but I do not want Tate calling me Lisa. Lately, I have been referring to myself as Momma to Mesa. Trying the sound out on my ears and getting Mesa’s reaction to it. Today I was out in the yard raking and cleaning up readying the estate for winter. I am probably the most amazing person to Mesa with all the raking and digging in the dirt. Maybe Mesa is afraid that I will discover her hidden stash of bones and chew sticks??? So Mesa’s coal black nose is into everything that I am doing. I am talking to her as I work. Out came the Momma name kind of in this context…..“What is Momma doing Mesa???”…. Over the back fence I hear a slight snicker and on to a burst of laughter. I think my Momma referring will be done in the privacy of my home away from the ears of others!!!

I didn't have as hard a time with "Mom" as I did calling my little tiny babies by big people names... Here they were, Jake and then later, Jack, and I felt like they should have been called "pudding cakes" or "lumpy"!

Who snickered? 'NEIGHBOR CHILDREN?' give me a BREAK WOMAN! I called myself Ebenezer's MOMMA EVERYWHERE WE WERE REGARDLESS OF WHO WAS WITHIN EAR SHOT! You are Mesa's Momma! And you're TATE'S MOMMA TOO! Let them snicker, who cares?! Sweetie, the job of Momma is hardest one you'll love! EMBRACE IT, snickers and ALL!

And if that doesn't work, you could always sick' Mesa on the little snicklers... hehehehe
THAT'LL TEACH EM!

Those crazy neighbors snickered at you? Well we don't care what they think, you just go right on with what you were doing!

Go for it, mama. Don't let the snickers get to ya.

My parents still have my cats for extended visitation during the finishing up of house repairs. I recently stopped by after returning from Florida and my mom started calling the cats by yelling "Mommy's here, mommy's here...come see your mama!" to the felines. Geesh - at least I don't have to encourage anyone ;0)

I have to say, I am my pets' mom. Whenever my husband doesn't want one of the dogs to sit with him or whatever.. he always says, "Go see your mom" or "Go sit with Mom". etc. I wouldn't have it any other way.

However, I know how you are feeling. This is my second marriage and my husband and I have no children of "our own". I always refer to the DH by his first name to my children and his children were grown so it was always 'Your dad" etc. It will be hard referring to him as 'daddy'

I thought it was adorable that my husband calls himself dad when he is talking to the cat and dog.

I always have called myself Buffy and Taylor's Mommy. I'll say, "Give that to Mommy!" or "Don't bite Mommy!"

I haven't heard my neighbors laughing at me, but I think Buffy and Taylor think I'm a little nuts sometimes!

I can't believe that some neighbors snickered. I have ALWAYS been momma to all my fur babies!

BTW, as I was typing this my bird yelled.....MOMMA! See, I told you!

Start now Lisa! Get use to it because very soon little Tate will be running around yelling Momma all over the house. Mesa knows that you are her Momma so be proud of it and don't worry about anyone else. I always tell Jack and Kozmo how much their Mommy and Daddy love them!
